Edison High ice hockey coach David Walker said that he is working on setting up a Surf City Face-off game with Huntington Beach next month. Walker described the process as “halfway” done.

The Chargers split two meetings with Huntington Beach last year. The surfboard trophy that the teams fight for currently resides with the Oilers, who won the last game between the two teams by a score of 3-2 on Feb. 11, 2017.

Edison moved up to the Varsity Division 1 level in the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League this year, taking away the built-in games between the rivals in their league schedule.

The transition to Division 1 has not been kind to the Chargers, who fell to 2-9-0-0 overall with a 2-1 loss to Orange Lutheran on Saturday at the Rinks Anaheim Ice. Jacob Furry’s second goal of the game broke a 1-1 tie with 2:26 left.

Austin Jones had tied the score with 6:46 remaining in the third period. His goal was assisted by James McGuire and Vito Valenzano.

Edison drops to 2-3 in one-goal games this season. Both of the Chargers’ wins have come against Tahoe Hockey Academy.

Four Chargers have been selected to represent Edison in the ADHSHL All-Star Games, which will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at Honda Center. Daniel Johnson and Ryan Osterkamp have been named to senior game rosters, while Nicholas Kiatos and Lindsey Labadie have been selected for the junior varsity game.

Huntington Beach will be sending forward Evan Stapleton and goaltender Josh Marin to partake in the senior game in the All-Star showcase.

The Newport-Mesa Ice Kings, who compete in the Junior Varsity Division, will have Joseph Cianfrani, Nicolas Carpino, and Aaron Parsons joining the festivities for the seventh annual ADHSHL All-Star Games.

Newport-Mesa has taken over first place in the Junior Varsity Division Coast View Conference standings. The Ice Kings (9-1-1-0, 29 points) jumped in front of the Pacific Ridge Firebirds (9-2-0-0, 27 points) over the weekend.

Ice Kings coach Lucas Romero said that senior forward Boden Lazio had a hat trick in Newport-Mesa’s 6-1 win over Palm Springs United on Saturday at the Rinks Lakewood Ice.

Newport-Mesa has won eight games in a row.
