High School Roundup: Sage Hill girls’ tennis stays unbeaten in San Joaquin League

The Sage Hill School girls’ tennis team swept in doubles Wednesday in a 14-4 San Joaquin League win over rival St. Margaret’s at Saddleback College.

The Lightning duos of Miranda deBruyne and Karina Grover, Maddy Dao and Julia Yuen, as well as Hannah Herin and Lauren Avenatti, each won three sets for Sage Hill (9-4, 7-0 in league).

Sage Hill continues league play at Claremont Webb on Thursday.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Edison 17, Marina 3: Cameron Davidson scored seven goals for the Chargers in Wednesday’s Wave League match at Newport Harbor High.

Luke Burgard and Marko Ilincic each added three goals for Edison (11-11, 2-1 in league).

Spencer Velek scored twice for Marina (4-16, 1-2).

Los Alamitos 18, Fountain Valley 2: Drew Nordfelt and Joseph Miran each scored for the Barons in Wednesday’s Wave League match at Newport Harbor High.

Fountain Valley is 0-3 in league, while first-place Los Alamitos improved to 3-0 after the first half of league play.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

San Juan Hills 3, Sage Hill 2: Senior outside hitter Sydnee Francis had 22 kills and three service aces for the Lightning, but the host Stallions won 22-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-12 in a nonleague match on Wednesday.

Senior outside hitter Amiyah De’Long had 14 kills and four aces for Sage Hill (9-10). Sophomore middle blocker Emily Elliott added 11 kills.

San Juan Hills (16-7) came into the match ranked eighth in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 and 2 combined rankings.

Sage Hill, which is 5-1 in the San Joaquin League, will resume league play on Thursday at Rowland Heights Southlands Christian (17-14, 1-6 in league).

GIRLS’ GOLF

Edison 199, Laguna Beach 245: Chaemin Kim’s one-over-par 37 earned her the individual medalist honor for the Chargers, who improved to 4-0 in Wave League play after Wednesday’s match at Mile Square Golf Course.

Erin Johnson had a 39 for Edison, which is 12-4 overall.

Laguna Beach dropped to 4-11 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Calvary Chapel 220, Costa Mesa 289: Kaylee Trask and Haven Aguilar led the Mustangs by shooting 21-over-par 56 in the Mustangs’ Orange Coast League match on the Mesa Linda Course at Costa Mesa Country Club on Wednesday.

Calvary Chapel’s Christine Im was the medalist at 34.

Costa Mesa (2-4 in the league) plays Calvary Chapel at Mile Square Golf Course on Monday.
