Slammers earn another crown

The Slammers Maroon U-12 girls' soccer team won the West Coast Premier Classic completed Sunday in Laguna Hills.

The Slammers defeated Legends Black, 2-0, in the title game and Faith Harper scored a pair of goals in the first half for the Newport Beach-based squad.

Harper was also among those who keyed a second-half comeback to erase a 3-0 deficit and forge a 3-3 tie against Beach Black to help the Slammers advance to the final. Harper, Paige Fults and Kiana Ghamari all had goals against Beach Black.

The Slammers also posted a 2-0 victory over FC San Diego Gold and a 2-1 triumph over West Coast United.

It was the second tournament title of the summer for the Slammers.

Coach Kirk McIntosh singled out goalkeeper Gabi Haw for her sterling play, which included several saves in the championship match.

Also contributing to the victory were team members Gabby Finear, Aubrey St. Laurent, Jackie Singer, Megan Dias, Katarina Freiberger, Leah Givant, Bella Goldstein, Sydney Griffith, Amanda Hittelman, Ellie Kim, Lexi Oates and Siena Ward.
