High School Roundup: Eagles earn win

GARDEN GROVE — All three Eagles doubles teams swept as Estancia picked up its first nonleague victory Thursday on the road.

Seniors Cory Frino and John Rivera swept at No. 1 doubles for the Eagles (1-2). The Estancia teams of Jared Payzant and Dave Cornelius, as well as Joseph Kidane and Erik Cerros, also swept.

COSTA MESA — Junior Jake Knapp shot one-under-par 35 to earn medalist honors for the Eagles in the nonleague match at El Dorado Park Golf Course Thursday.

Jake Stone (41), Cortland Lee (43), Aaron Wood (44) and Scott Wagner (47) also scored for Estancia (2-0), which opens Orange Coast League play Monday against Loara at Costa Mesa Country Club.


Corona del Mar 202, Aliso Niguel 204

LAGUNA NIGUEL – Senior Ryan Grable shot a one-over-par 37 for the Sea Kings and earned a share of the medalist honors in a nonconference match at at El Niguel Country Club Thursday.

Mike Moorhead finished with a 39 as the Sea Kings improved to 2-0, Karick Brown had a 41, John Davenport a 42 and Brian Mull a 43.

Grable split medalist honors with Aliso Niguel's Mark Jensma and Sammy Cole.


Aliso Niguel 204, Newport Harbor 210

LAGUNA NIGUEL — Marcus Kiel and Brad Tapfer each recorded three-over-par 39s for the Sailors in a nonleague match at El Niguel Country Club Thursday.

Zach Eddy had a 40 for Newport Harbor (1-2), followed by Mason Moody (43) and Carter Norris (49).

Aliso Niguel's Mark Jensma and Sammy Cole shared medalist honors after they both shots 37s.
