EDITOR’S NOTE: This corrects an earlier version. Jason Lynch is not coaching any teams for Newport Harbor.

Newport Harbor High boys’ swimming coach Jason Lynch will not be coaching the team effective immediately, the school’s principal Michael Vossen said Monday night.

Vossen wouldn’t elaborate on the reasoning for the news, only stating that it was a personnel matter. He sent out an email to the athletes and parents Monday afternoon.

The email:

“Dear NHHS Boys Aquatics Players and Parents: I need to inform you that Coach Lynch will be absent from his school related coaching duties effective today, April 4th, until further notice. We are currently planning the best way to support your student athletes as they continue to compete and will have coaching support in place during Coach Lynch’s absence. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.”

Vossen said Lynch remains a teacher at Newport Harbor.

Lynch didn’t return phone calls made to his cell phone Monday night. He is in his 11th year as boys’ water polo coach and boys’ swim coach at Harbor.
