COSTA MESA — Caitlin Segert had 10 kills to lead the Lions to their first Golden State Athletic Conference win, 25-15, 25-18, 25-17, Tuesday.

KaUwila Lavea had nine kills, while Alexandra Leja had 16 assists and Carly Maxwell had 15 assist for No. 23-ranked Vanguard (12-6, 1-2 in conference). Leja and Lisa Morgan had six kills each to lead the Lions. Candace Cedarstrom had five block assists.

San Diego City is 5-12, 0-3.

The Lions will play at Westmont Saturday.

WOMEN’S GOLF

Cougar Cup

PULLMAN, Wash. — The UC Irvine women’s golf team earned a sixth-place finish at the Washington State Cougar event at the Palouse Ridge Golf Course.

The Anteaters finished with a three-round total of 939 (323-304-312). Washington captured the tournament title with a Cougar Cup record of 890 (309-285, 296). Stanford’s Sally Watson sank a 40-footer on her final hole to earn medalist honors with a four-over-par-220.

Senior Lalita Patipaksiri led the Anteaters, finishing 23rd after carding a 230 (80-73-77) over three rounds.

Freshman Michelle Yang recorded a team-best 74 on the final round Tuesday and ended the tournament tied for 32nd with a score of 234 (85-75-74).

Sophomore Ronnie Valerio was 48th with a score of 238 (82-76-80), while freshman Brenna Carlson was tied for 67th at 247 (79-80-88) and sophomore Sara Banke was tied for 70th with a total of 248 (82-85-81).

UCI will head to the Nevada Wolf Pack Classic Oct. 3-4 at the Dalton Valley Country Club.
