SAN DIEGO — Jessy Cardey scored five goals to pace the Anteaters in the third-place game of the NCAA Championship on Sunday at San Diego State.

UCI with a best-ever No. 4 national finish, completes its season with a 25-8 record. The No. 4-seeded ‘Eaters lost to eventual champion Stanford, 12-3, in Saturday’s semifinals.

Danielle Warde, Hannah Croghan, Katie Croghan and Hillary Estrada added goals, while Jillian Yocum had five saves for UCI against the Bruins.

Cardey was named first-team all-tournament, while Kelsey Klatt was a second-team honoree.

NORTHRIDGE — The host Matadors erased a 4-0 deficit to tie, then scored the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth to earn their first Big West Conference series win over the Anteaters since 2004.

Senior second baseman Tommy Reyes was two for four with two runs batted in, while senior shortstop D.J. Crumlich and senior first baseman Jordan Fox were both two for four with one RBI for UCI (28-20, 12-9 in conference). Freshman catcher Jerry McClanahan was two for four for the ‘Eaters.

Junior closer Race Parmenter absorbed the loss for UCI, which dropped Saturday’s game, 6-3.

Northridge improved to 22-24, 9-9.
