Newport Beach Sluggers take second

The Newport Beach Sluggers, a 9U baseball travel team, finished second in their first 9U tournament of the year last weekend in West Covina.

The Sluggers, made up of players mainly from Andersen and Harbor Day third-graders, reached the championship game, where they lost to La Puente Heat.

The Sluggers, managed by Ron Pluma, beat the Colton Bandits, 13-7, and Diamond Bar Dawgs, 7-5, to reach the final in the one-day tournament put on by Hard Core Baseball club of West Covina.
