Briefs: HB water polo teams victorious

The Huntington Beach Water Polo Club boys' 12- and 14-and-under teams took first place in their respective divisions Sunday at the Ventura Cup at Cal Lutheran University.

The 14U team scored wins against Bakersfield (13-1), South Coast (13-2), South Bay United (7-1), and defeated L.A. Premier, 8-5, in Sunday's title game.

The 12U team defeated Alliance Water Polo Club, 10-5, in the division final Sunday. Huntington had scored earlier wins over Gold Coast (5-1), Riverside (9-1) and Expo Sharks (9-1). The 12U team is: Kyle Wilbourn, Casey Reagan, Josh Bowman, Charles Slutsky, Jacob Pyle (goalie), Garrett Lee, Cameron Reagan, Randal Macias, Jackson Williams, Dane Howell and Ethan Shipman. The team is coached by Sasa Branisavljevic.

GTFC takes Region 56 tourney title

The Gladiator Turtle Futbol Club captured the AYSO Region 56 (South Huntington Beach) boys' under-14 division championship by winning the three-team, round-robin event Nov. 17 at Brethren Christian High.

GTFC defeated the No. 1-rated team in Area K, Team Roberts, 3-2. Clay Culhane scored two goals and Keegan Coleman scored once and had an assist as GTFC avenged a 3-0 loss to Team Roberts earlier in the season. In the second game of the round robin tournament, GTFC defeated Blue Man Group, 3-2. Coleman scored twice and assisted a goal by Noe Olivares.

GTFC received solid play in goal from Brooks Juhasz, on defense by Jack Davis, Kaleb Wartnaby, and Damian Koptyra and Jason Koptyra, in midfield play by David Gomez and Blake Sepe, and offensive support from Daniel Parra, Connor Hanks and Drake Williamson.

Oreo Crushers win Region 55 crown

The Oreo Crushers took the AYSO Region 55 (Huntington Beach) boys' 12-and-under title Nov. 12 by defeating Better Than Bronze, 2-1, in overtime. Both teams move on to compete Saturday at the Area 11 K tournament at the Dan Young Soccer Complex in Santa Ana.

The Oreo Crushers are: Jason St. Pierre, Aidan Minear, Max Richardson, Garrett Lee, Cody Schuesler, Anthony Wilson, Clayton Zarate, Drew Lottsfeldt, Logun Scott, Jovanni Page, Isaiah Seward, and Joel Kosareff. The team is coached by Jeff Schuesler.

Little League registration is Thursday

Westminster Little League, which serves Westminster, northwest Huntington Beach, and Midway City and is part of Little League District 62, is holding a registration session for the 2013 season from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Middle School in Westminster (13603 Edwards. St.).
