High School Roundup: Eagles earn first league win


Estancia 76, Saddleback 55

COSTA MESA — Josh Mendoza scored 22 points for the Eagles in the Orange Coast League game Friday.

Matt Jarmacz had 19 points and seven rebounds, while Martin Harry (five assists) and Mike Hubbard (nine rebounds) scored 10 points each for Estancia (5-15, 1-3 in league).

Ben Beck finished with nine points for the Eagles.


Corona del Mar 68, University 37

IRVINE — Max Stone scored 18 points for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Friday.

Kevin Fults added 12 points and Blake Grable had 10 points for CdM (13-8, 3-1 in league).


Los Alamitos 60, Newport Harbor 51

NEWPORT BEACH — Nic Sargeant scored 26 points for the Sailors in the Sunset League game Friday.

Zack Wade (five assists) and Kevin Rakestraw (nine rebounds, three blocks) had eight points each for Newport Harbor (10-11, 1-4 in league).



Sage Hill 31, Oxford Academy 22

CYPRESS — Shelby Bolen scored 12 points for the Lightning in the Academy League game Friday.

Maggie Danner added 11 points and Kendra Hall had four points for Sage Hill (5-7, 2-2 in league).


University 62, Corona del Mar 34

IRVINE — Maria King scored 12 points for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Friday.

Natalia Bruening had 11 points and eight rebounds and Katie Scott had seven points and three steals for CdM (7-12, 0-4 in league).



Corona del Mar 1, Woodbridge 1

CORONA DEL MAR — Senior Hunter Cullen scored for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match Friday.

Senior Conor Roche recorded the assist for CdM (6-5-5, 1-0-2 in league).

Sophomore goalie Gavin Allen had four saves, while strong defense was played by senior Davis Case, junior Jay Damon, senior Chris Von Der Ahe and senior Reed Wolonsky. Juniors Max Premer and John O'Connor stood out in the midfield.


Oxford Academy 2, Sage Hill 1

NEWPORT COAST — Danny Lee scored for the Lightning in the Academy League game Wednesday.

Sage Hill fell to 1-2-1 in league.



Five Counties Invitational

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Newport Harbor senior Mason Murphy was eliminated at 170 pounds, after going 3-2 on Friday at Fountain Valley High.

Murphy had 14 takedowns and one major decision in his five matches. Coach Dominic Bulone said Murphy had the best record of any wrestler he's taken to the prestigious Five Counties meet.
