NAC crews head to San Diego Crew Classic

Six junior and one masters crew from Newport Aquatic Center will be competing this weekend in the San Diego Crew Classic.

The rowing event, the most prestigious regatta on the West Coast, is held on Mission Bay. Nearly 100 races will be held over the weekend with more than 4,000 junior, college and masters competitors.

Newport Aquatic Center will send eights to compete in the men’s and women’s Junior Varsity, Junior Lightweight and Junior JV races as well as a women’s masters eight in the 55-59 year-old category. NAC will be rowing against top California crews such as Marin, Long Beach and Oakland as well as crews from Washington, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas, Connecticut and Michigan.

Qualifying heats are held Saturday with finals on Sunday.

Other San Diego Crew Classic races feature top men’s and women’s college crews from Cal, Wisconsin, Washington, Stanford and Penn.
