College Roundup: UCI’s Martin, Hyams end season in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas — The 2013 season ended Thursday for UC Irvine sophomore Riley Martin and senior Sam Hyams.

Running in different heats of the 1,500 meters first round, Martin had a time of 4:00.19 and Hyams 4:03.44 as they did not advance to Saturday’s quarterfinal.

Sophomore Mason Miller competes in the shotput Friday beginning at 4 p.m. He recorded a career-best mark of 57-4 ¼ in the Big West Conference Championships May 11 at Northridge. That mark ranks No. 3 in UCI history.

On the women’s side, UCI sophomore Itos Aikhionbare competes in the discus throw Friday at 10 a.m.

Junior Lacey Surak competes in the javelin throw Saturday at 10 a.m., while Aikhionbare is in the shotput at 4 p.m. that day.
