COSTA MESA — Freshmen Sierra Brown, Kayla Mayer, Megan Rawlings and Kellie Kleszcz each had four kills for the host Pirates, who prevailed, 25-18, 25-15, 25-14, in the nonconference season opener on Wednesday.

Megan Ritchie had 26 assists, while Brown led an OCC defense, that amassed 54 digs, with 12.

Mayer and Carina Perez had nine digs apiece for the winners, who visit Southwestern on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Orange Coast 3, Rio Hondo 1

COSTA MESA — Tyler Rios scored twice for the host Pirates in the nonconference season opener on Wednesday.

OCC scored twice in the opening minutes, led off by Pedro Erhechury, who converted an assist from Jorge Sanchez to open the scoring.

Garrett Stiffler-Greasby and Jacob Rushing had assists on Rios’ goals, the latter coming in the 75th minute.

Connor Nelson had six saves for OCC, which plays host to Los Angeles Harbor on Friday at 4 p.m.

COSTA MESA — Sandy Jiminez scored on an assist by Shelle Zito in the 12th minute for the host Pirates in the nonconference game Wednesday.

Emily Harrier had five saves to give OCC (2-0-1) its third shutout in as many games this season.

Anmarie Moreno also played well defensively for OCC, which plays host to Los Angeles Harbor on Friday at 2 p.m.

Rio Hondo is 2-1.
