Samantha Doucette scored 23 points and Nicole Ballestero added 22 to lead the Lions in their season opener Thursday at the Pit.

The duo also had five assists each. Melissa Norman scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 12 minutes. Jaime Goff grabbed 16 rebounds to go with seven points, three steals and two blocks for Vanguard (1-0).

UC Irvine 81, Concordia 70

Senior guard Jennifer Tsurumoto led all players with 17 points for the Anteaters in the exhibition Thursday at Bren Events Center.

Senior forward Camille Buckley had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Mokun Fajemisin added nine points and nine rebounds, while junior guard Madison McKenney had eight points. All 15 Anteaters saw action with all but two players scoring at least one point.
