Cruise fundraiser is Thursday

Huntington Beach High Athletics will stage the Hall of Fame Yacht Cruise Fundraiser event from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday in Newport Beach (2901 Pacific Coast Highway).

Ticket prices are $80 single ticket, and $150 per couple, which includes silent auction items. Ticket prices also include a viewing of the Newport Harbor Christmas Boat Parade, a 90-minute Newport Harbor Yacht Cruise, live DJ and dancing, hors d'oeuvres, buffet dinner stations, and an entry into a raffle drawing. Three cash bars also are available.

All proceeds from the event fund the Huntington Beach Hall of Fame construction project.

West breaks records

Steve West of Huntington Beach, a former USA Swimming National Team member, broke three world records Dec. 10 at the Southern Pacific Masters short-course meters championship at the City of Commerce.

West, 41, set records in the 50 (28.55 seconds), 100 (1:01.44), and 200 (2:14.36).

West, who was an alternate for the 1996 USA Men's Olympic Water Polo Team, last year became the oldest male to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials in swimming.

U.S. team wins Holiday Cup

The USA Women's National Water Polo Team, which included local athletes Danielle Warde (Edison High, UC Irvine) and Alys Williams (Edison High, UCLA), won the 2013 Holiday Cup Sunday, following a 13-5 win over Greece at Foothill High.

Team USA went 5-0 at the tournament, which included teams from Greece, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, and Russia.

The tournament started Dec. 11.

On Monday , Williams also was named to the 2013 USA Women's Senior National Team World Cup Qualification roster, and Bret Bonanni of Huntington Beach (Mater Dei, Stanford), made the USA Men's Senior National Team World Cup Qualification roster.

The World Cup qualification event started Tuesday and runs through Thursday. Bonanni scored on a power play for the first of three consecutive goals by Team USA in the fourth quarter, which led to an eventual, 11-6 win Tuesday over Canada.

The Team USA women's team defeated Canada, 11-4, Tuesday.

On Thursday, the U.S. men's team will again face Canada at 10:30 a.m. at the Santa Ana YMCA (2100 West Alton Ave., Santa Ana), and the Team USA women's team goes up against Canada at 7:30 p.m. at Foothill High (19251 Dodge Ave., Santa Ana).

The U.S. women's teams are coached by Adam Krikorian.
