Lions too much for Bethesda

Vanguard 7, Bethesda 2

Senior catcher John Collins went four for four with two runs batted in and senior shortstop Nick Rodda was three for four with one RBI to lead the host Lions in the nonconference game Tuesday.

Ian Sakry was two for four with one RBI for the winners (29-18), for whom Jordan Moak earned his first win of the season by allowing no earned runs in five innings.

Vanguard plays host to Concordia in a three-game Golden State Athletic Conference series beginning Friday.

The Lions need to win two of three from the Eagles to move past them to secure a top-four finish and a spot in the conference tournament.

Bethesda is 13-31.
