Costa Mesa police are seeking the public’s help in finding a man who fraudulently purchased a bicycle worth $1,700 last month, authorities said.

The man entered a business in the 1200 block of West Baker Street at about 11:45 a.m. Jan. 13, selected a gray KHS Flite 750 bicycle and bought it with what turned out to be false traveler’s checks, said police Lt. Victor Bakkila.

He said the man “may be frequenting other bike shops in the area.”

The man, seen on security footage, was described as 5-foot-7 and 160 pounds with short black hair, a short goatee and brown eyes.
