Key Barons: Sr. QB Nick Welch (120 of 222 passing for 1,937 yards, 14 TDs and nine INTs; 105 carries for 830 yards and 10 TDs); Sr. RB Benn Vallier (103 carries for 763 yards and 10 TDs); Jr. WR-DB Kishaun Sykes (21 catches for 503 yards and four TDs; one rushing TD); Sr. WR Brandon Krause (36 catches for 549 yards and three TDs)

Breakdown: Fountain Valley (6-4) plays host to Wildomar Elsinore (6-4) in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 6 playoffs … Barons, who shared third place in the Sunset League, qualified for the postseason a year after they went 1-9 … Tigers run the wing-T offense, a rarity these days in high school football, and it has Fountain Valley coach Jimmy Nolan worried having to prepare for it in less than a week … Fountain Valley, which is playing its first playoff home game in nine years, last won a postseason game in 2003 … Elsinore is an at-large entry from the Sunbelt League, which is home to Romoland Heritage, the No. 2 seed in the Division 2 playoffs … Barons faced two Division 2 teams in Edison and Los Alamitos in league and lost by an average of 36 points per game.
