High School Roundup: Laguna Beach boys’ basketball routs Calvary Chapel to improve to 2-0 in league

Senior Blake Burzell scored 22 points as the Laguna Beach High boys' basketball team beat Calvary Chapel 85-22 in an Orange Coast League road game Friday night.

Grady Morgan scored 16 points for Laguna Beach (16-3, 2-0 in league), ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section Division 3AA poll. Nolan Naess had 14 points.

The Breakers play Rancho Mirage in the third annual Coach Mike’s Long Shot Challenge at Corona del Mar High on Monday at noon.

Corona del Mar 49, Beckman 45: John Humphreys and Jake Hamilton each scored 13 points for the host Sea Kings in a Pacific Coast League game Friday.

Kevin Kobrine added nine points for the Sea Kings (11-5, 1-1 in league), ranked No. 16 in CIF Southern Section Division 2AA.

CdM plays host to San Gabriel Academy in the third annual Coach Mike’s Long Shot Challenge on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Costa Mesa 79, Saddleback 44: Osman Hefner had 23 points for the Mustangs in Friday's Orange Coast League game on the road.

Nico Dasca scored 22 points and Tre Villalpando added 14 points for Costa Mesa (7-7, 2-0 in league).

The Mustangs host Western in the third annual Coach Mike’s Long Shot Challenge on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Ocean View 106, Loara 62: Mehkel Harvey finished with 32 points, 15 rebounds, five blocked shots, three assists and one steal for the Seahawks on the road Friday.

Seth Mishler had 25 points and six three-pointers for Ocean View (14-4, 2-0 in league), ranked No. 7 in CIF Southern Section Division 3AA.

The Seahawks play El Toro in the third annual Coach Mike’s Long Shot Challenge at Costa Mesa High on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Capistrano Valley Christian 59, Pacifica Christian Orange County 57: Capo Valley Christian scored with four seconds left for the win in Friday's San Joaquin League game on the road.

Dominick Harris scored 28 points and Josh Sims scored 13 for Pacifica Christian (6-12, 1-1 in league), ranked No. 10 in CIF Southern Section Division 5AAA.

The Tritons face Savanna in the third annual Coach Mike’s Long Shot Challenge at CdM High on Monday at 3 p.m.

St. Margaret’s 71, Sage Hill 49: Cooper Green led the host Lightning with 15 points in an Academy League game on Friday night.

Ryan Hosseinzadeh added 12 points for Sage Hill (7-12, 2-3 in league).

Godinez 47, Estancia 30: Cameron Jones led the Eagles with 13 points in an Orange Coast League game at home on Friday.

Estancia, ranked No. 13 in CIF Southern Section Division 5AAA, dropped to 12-6 overall and 1-1 in league.

Los Alamitos 68, Marina 60: The visiting Vikings fell to 11-8 overall and 1-2 in Sunset League play on Friday.

Marina plays at Newport Harbor on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Garden Grove 87, Los Amigos 40: Steven Ruelas led the Lobos with 15 points in Friday’s Garden Grove League road game.

Los Amigos (9-9, 1-1 in league) plays at Bolsa Grande on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

BOYS' SOCCER

Pacifica Christian Orange County 5, Fairmont Prep 2: Sophomore Noah Redman had three goals and two assists for the Tritons, who earned their first San Joaquin League win in program history Friday on the road.

Junior Nick Kutscher had two goals and two assists for Pacifica Christian (4-4-1, 1-2-0 in league).

Laguna Beach 2, Calvary Chapel 1: Carson Cushing and Beck Kessler each scored for the Breakers in Friday's Orange Coast League game at Centennial Regional Park in Santa Ana.

Laguna Beach (7-3-1, 2-0-0 in league) hosts Estancia on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Estancia 2, Godinez 2: Senior Charly Segura and sophomore Aaron Neri scored for the Eagles in Friday's Orange Coast League game at home.

Estancia (8-3-3, 1-0-1 in league) is ranked No. 8 in CIF Southern Section Division 3.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Corona del Mar 43, Beckman 34: Junior center Tatiana Bruening had 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Sea Kings in a Pacific Coast League game at home on Friday.

Freshman forward Trasara Alexander had five points and 13 rebounds. Junior guard Samantha Uehara and sophomore forward Sophie Beador each had six points.

The Sea Kings (5-9, 1-1 in league) outscored the Patriots 12-2 in the fourth quarter.

CdM takes on Moorpark (8-8) in the Presion Showcase at Orangewood Academy on Monday at 11:30 a.m.

Ocean View 64, Loara 42: The host Seahawks won their seventh straight game, taking sole-possession of first place in the Golden West League on Friday.

Junior center Helen Reynolds had 19 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

Freshman forward Hosanna Walker added 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Senior guard Erica Almiranez chipped in with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Ocean View (13-5, 2-0 in league) remains home to face Westminster (11-6, 1-1) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Connelly 37, Pacifica Christian Orange County 19: Sophomore Annika Bahnsen led the visiting Tritons with nine points.

Pacifica Christian (2-4, 0-2 in league) travels for an Express League game against Liberty Christian (0-5, 0-2) on Tuesday.

Garden Grove 57, Los Amigos 20: The visiting Lobos took their ninth straight loss in Friday’s Garden Grove League contest.
