Lido House hotel construction is in the home stretch in Newport Beach

The Lido House hotel is weeks away from opening in Newport Beach.

The Cape Cod-style exterior is all but finished and detail work is well underway inside the four-story, 130-room luxury hotel on the former City Hall site at 3300 Newport Blvd. The hotel is expected to open in late March or early April.

Bob Olson, chief executive of the hotel’s builder and owner, R.D. Olson Development, joined other hotel executives in leading a hardhat tour Wednesday.

The property will be operated by Marriott as part of its Autograph Collection. R.D. Olson Development has an 85-year lease with the city for the land.

“When you come here, you’re really going to feel you’ve arrived in Newport Beach,” Olson said from the lobby.

The hotel will feature five two-bedroom, townhouse-style “cottages,” each with its own floor plan and styling by local interior designers. There also will be several executive suites, an expansive presidential suite with a view of Catalina Island on a clear day, and standard king-bed and double queen-bed rooms.

Lido House will offer a spa, a full-service restaurant called the Mayor’s Table, a coffee shop and ice creamery, a rooftop lounge, a parlor off the lobby for high tea, valet parking and a saltwater pool with private cabanas and champagne cart service. The hotel has its own custom champagne blend created in France.

Each cottage is named for a local island. The Balboa cottage will feature artwork of the Ferris wheel at the Fun Zone on the Balboa Peninsula.

A model of a ship with historical Newport Harbor ties — Olson was coy about the vessel but seemed confident that locals would recognize it — will sit in the lobby. A private dining room has a curved, wood-plank ceiling to evoke a ship’s bow. Staff members at the front desk will be outfitted in blue suits designed by Orange County’s David August.

The project first went before the City Council in 2013 and broke ground last year. Rooms will start at about $300 a night.
