Laguna celebrates community with Patriots Day Parade

For the 52nd year, Laguna Beach honored community members and civic groups with its Patriots Day Parade on Saturday.

This year’s theme, “Waves of Freedom,” took its cue from the waves crashing onto Laguna’s shoreline and the American flag waving above Monument Point.

The parade’s grand marshal was Laguna Beach writer Gloria Fickling, who along with her late husband, Skip, created the Honey West novels about a female detective.

Other honorees included World War II veteran George Ciampa and Citizen of the Year Heidi Miller.

More than 90 groups were lined up for the parade, including the Laguna Art Museum, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
