2 arrested during traffic stop in Fountain Valley

A man was arrested early Tuesday on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of a loaded firearm, allegedly after trying to flee from officers during a traffic stop in Fountain Valley, police said.

His passenger also was arrested, police said.

Officers stopped the vehicle at 1:17 a.m. near Filbert Street and Dandelion Avenue. When they asked the driver to step out of the car, he tried to run away but tripped and was taken into custody, police said.

During a search of the vehicle, officers said, they found a stolen license plate and a loaded firearm that was not registered.

The driver, identified as Hoang Le, 36, of Santa Ana was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, possession of stolen property, resisting a peace officer and possession of a concealed loaded firearm, police said.

The passenger, Ricardo Sanchez, 31, of Orange was arrested in connection with an outstanding warrant and on suspicion of providing a false name to police, authorities said.

Sanchez was being held without bail at the Theo Lacy jail in Orange.

Le, who is listed in jail records as a contractor, was booked into Theo Lacy with bail set at $100,000.
