Alzheimer’s workshop set

“Know the 10 Signs of Alzheimer’s…Early Detection Matters” will be presented at the Susi Q Senior Center from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 3. Learn to play bridge

Seniors are invited to beginning bridge lessons on five Fridays from noon to 2 p.m. beginning Oct. 15 at the Susi Q Senior Center. The cost is $65 for the course.

The five-session class is designed for the beginning player. Each session will start with a short lesson on basic bidding techniques and responses. The instructor is Ann Cressman, a certified bridge instructor.

Intermediate bridge course

An intermediate supervised play bridge course will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Mondays beginning Sept. 13 at the Susi Q Senior Center. Cost for the seven-session course is $80.

The course is designed for those who have already taken a refresher bridge course at the Susi Q or are a current bridge player and want to continue improving upon your bridge playing skills. The course is taught by Ann Cressman and includes discussion of hands and scoring. Registration and pre-payment are required. For more information, call (949) 497-2441.

Write your memoir

The Susi Q Senior Center will offer a memoir writing workshop on six Wednesdays beginning Sept. 29 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The six-session course, taught by Berteil Mahoney, is $95.

Participants will learn about the qualities of good memoir writing, read and discuss published memoirs, and write in response to a variety of prompts. Participants will leave with a clearer idea about their own stories and begin to discover a personal writing voice, style and purpose. Class enrollment is limited.

Driver safety course offered

An AARP drive safety course will take place from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 16 and 17 at the Susi Q Senior Center.

The course will teach safe driving strategies and defensive driving techniques. Course participants may be eligible to receive a discount on their auto insurance premiums. Cost is $12 for AARP members, $14 for non-members.

Frugal Computing class

The Susi Q Computer Club is offering two presentations that will emphasize what affordable computer software is available to consumers and how to use it. The seminars will take place from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Sept.15 and Sept. 29.

Community Needle Art Group

Knitter or crocheters are invited to join a Community Needle Art Group once a month and collaborate on projects to benefit the community. The next meeting will be in the game room from 1 to 3:30 p.m. today at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third. St. For more information, call (949) 497-2441.

Weekly Bingo with Prizes

The weekly Bingo game from 10:30 to 11:30 p.m. Thursdays now features three additional prizes provided by AristoCare Home Health Services. Free. Join the fun in the game room at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St.

Wii video game lessons

Volunteer high school students are available on Mondays and Wednesdays to show you how to play with Nintendo Wii in the lunch room. Stop by to learn how to use this fun video game from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This is a free event. For more information, call (949) 497-2441.

Getty Villa excursion

Join the Susi Q on an excursion to the Getty Villa in Los Angeles for a Sept. 23 presentation of “Elektra,” the Greek tragedy by Sophocles starring Olympia Dukakis. A chartered Silverstate Coach bus will leave at approximately 4:30 p.m. for the 8 p.m. showing of “Elektra”. Cost is $60 for members and $65 for non-members. Price includes bus fare and entry ticket. Sally’s Fund offers transport

Laguna Beach seniors may obtain a ride to the Susi Q Senior Center for lunch or activities by calling Sally’s Fund at (949) 715-1866. Those seeking rides should call ahead of time to make sure they can be accommodated. For all other services, such as transportation to doctor appointments, physical therapy, grocery shopping, and errands, call (949) 499-4100.
