It was a night of heartfelt giving at Newport’s Balboa Bay Club & Resort.
The American Heart Assn.sponsored the 2012 Heart and Stroke Ball, and the crowd of some 400 guests gave and did so generously, as more than $550,000 was raised.
The black tie evening on the coast was championed by ball chair Brett Wall and his wife Marnie, and supported by VIP sponsors, including Covidien, Roth Staffing, Edwards Lifesciences, Abbott Medical Optics, Union Bank and more.
Guests of honor in the field of cardiovascular science were Harvinder Sahota, M.D. and David Morgan Brown, M.D. Special guest speaker Penney Vaughn shared the personal story of her daughter Peyton, who survived a stroke as an infant in the first weeks of life.
“Peyton will realize her dreams of a full life thanks to the research that finds treatments for the horrible effects of a stroke,” Vaughn said.
Major support for the elegant evening, which included dinner and an auction, came from concerned citizens Henrik Fisker, Mary and Dick Allen, Debbie and Mike Bolen, Hoag Hospital’s Dr. David Brown and Dr. Christine Brown, Karen and Scott Sherman of Allergen, Rob Reindel and Priyanka and Karan Khanna.
Founded in 1924, the American Heart Assn.is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary health organization devoted to preventing heart disease and stroke. Heart disease and stroke are the number one and number four killers in America, claiming some 831,000 lives annually.
On June 9, the Balboa Bay Club & Resort will also be the venue for the Hopeful Hearts Foundation Ball, raising funds and awareness for programs designed to promote the health of children suffering from congenital heart defects and cardiac disease.
The foundation supports early detection and education for medical personnel and also is very involved in researching valve replacement. In addition, the foundation offers financial assistance to families suffering hardships due to mounting medical costs and ongoing hospital procedures.
Presenting sponsor of the Hopeful Hearts Foundation Ball will be Quest Software, naming the event “An Evening To Inspire.”
“We are thrilled to be sponsoring this event, supporting a charity that is important to our employees,” said Quest Vice President Terri Avnaim. “The Hopeful Hearts Foundation focuses not only on research but also on practical help for families. We want Quest Software to make a difference for these children and their families.”
The dinner event will feature a specially designed menu by Chef Amar Santana, who rose to prominence with the Charlie Palmer Restaurant label and now runs his own establishment, Broadway in Laguna Beach. Entertainment will be provided by Ravi, an Orange County resident voted in 2010 by the People’s Choice as the “World’s Best Innovated DJ.”
