Sawdust Art Festival does fashion

The Sawdust Art Festival hosted its first fashion show last week, according to a news release.

Sawdust participants and clothing and textiles designers Olivia Batchelder, Leila Ehdaie, Michelle Holt, Helen McNamara, Michelle Lance and Sue Winner presented their designs on the runway at the Greek stage. Next year, the festival plans to have a larger fashion show on the Main Entertainment Deck, the release said.

Separately, the Festival announced new board members. Gavin Heath, Michael Thorstensen and Mike Kelly were all elected to three-year terms, according to a news release. Current members include Rachel Goberman, Jay Grant, Marla Burns, Cindy Stalnaker, Dennis Junka and Tracey Moscaritolo. Officers for the 2012-13 year are Heath as president, Goberman as vice president, Grant as secretary and Thorstensen as treasurer.

Laguna Beach Live! nabs Telly awards

A show by Laguna Beach Live!, “Billy Childs Jazz Chamber Ensemble,” was honored with three Telly awards, an honor given to the best film and video productions, according to a news release.

The program, in conjunction with Jeff Cole Productions was produced during the group’s fall concert last year. It was first broadcast on public station KOCE , and the project was spearheaded by Sam Goldstein, a board member who worked with Jeff Cole Productions and nabbed sponsorship by Montage Resorts.

There were more than 12,000 entries from 50 states and five continents submitted for the Tellys. All of the awards given to Laguna Beach Live! and Jeff Cole Productions were in the “TV programs, segments or promotional pieces” category and included a silver award (the top) for cultural, bronze for live events and bronze for documentary.

Festival accepting artists’ applications

South Orange County artists interested in being featured at next year’s Festival of Arts should start applying now, according to a press release.

The Festival is taking applications for the 2013 show, which will run July and August, through 4 p.m. Oct. 26.

Artists who live in the following cities can apply: Aliso Viejo, Balboa, Balboa Island, Capistrano Beach, Coto de Caza, Corona del Mar, Costa Mesa, Dana Point, Foothill Ranch, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Ladera Ranch, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Lake Forest/El Toro, Mission Viejo, Monarch Beach, Newport Beach, Newport Coast, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano.

Artists must be able to show that they have resided in one of the above-mentioned cities for at least one year prior to Oct. 26, and pay $50 jurying fees per medium submitted.

Artists also must submit a CD with three digital images per medium and a completed application form, which can be downloaded at https://www.LagunaFestivalofArts.org.

In addition, the Festival is offering a workshop titled, “How to prepare your artwork for submission to the 2013 summer exhibit,” from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Festival’s grounds, 650 Laguna Canyon Road. The workshop is hosted on a first-come, first-served basis.
