Pet of the Week

Samantha, a sweet-natured shepherd mix, is 10 years young. At 50 pounds, she is petite for her breed and generally healthy, without serious hip issues that can plague shepherds.

Samantha walks easily on leash and always demonstrates good manners around other dogs. While puppies and adolescents are undeniably cute, their boundless energy may not be appropriate for all households.

Older pets offer many advantages. Usually calmer, house-trained and well-behaved overall, they are less "high maintenance" than a younger dog. Most of all, they still have lots of love to give! Samantha, and several other OCHS shelter dogs in the 7- to 10-year-old range, fit these criteria perfectly.

Please consider welcoming Samantha into your home to share her golden years with you. Her adoption fees are discounted 25% all week when you mention this announcement at the Orange County Humane Society, 21632 Newland St., Huntington Beach. For more information, call (714) 536-8480 or visit
