Avran Art + Design offers art with international appeal

Share

A new member of the arts community hopes to introduce gallery patrons to international art as well as local artists.

Corona del Mar resident Marta Avran Juhasz opened Avran Art + Design last month. The space features sculptures, painting, jewelry and photography.

Although she has no art experience of her own, Juhasz, originally from Hungary, is an interior designer and entrepreneur. She plans to showcase artists from Eastern Europe, such as renowned sculptor Laszlo Lukacsi, who has three pieces in the gallery.

He’s one of the top sculptors in the world, said Director Mark A. Hamlett, former owner of Forest Avenue Fine Arts.

“For the past three months we’ve been the only gallery in the world to have his work showing,” he said.

Robert Schaar, known for his colorful paintings of American and European scenery, is also showing his work at the gallery. Schaar had a gallery in town for more than 20 years and shuttered it in 2009.

The gallery will be showing about 15 of his original paintings along with a sampling of his limited edition work on Nov. 17, Hamlett said.

Avran Art + Design is at 540 S. Coast Hwy., Suite 106.
