In the Arts

The Pageant of the Masters has announced that its theme for 2014 is "The Art Detective," with tableaux centered on the solving of mysteries.

The annual event's website states that the staged scenes "will reveal how lost treasures were discovered, where crimes of passion were uncovered (or covered up) and how creative riddles were unraveled, with a gallery of the world's great masterpieces providing the clues."

The show, which features live models posing in costumes and makeup to replicate artworks, will run July 9 through Aug. 30.

Laguna Art Museum's Historical Art Council will host a trip Saturday to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the nearby Dammann private collection.

The group, accompanied by historical-art curator Janet Blake, will meet at Laguna Beach High School, 625 Park Ave., at 8:45 a.m. and depart at 9, returning around 6 p.m. The trip is limited to 40 participants. Prices, which include lunch, are $125 for Historical Art Council members and $165 for nonmembers.

To make reservations, call (949) 494-8971, Ext. 203.
