Athletic Conference victory over visiting Vanguard University Saturday

night.

Five different Cougars scored in double figures, led by McIllwain’s

15. Three were reserves.

The Cougars led by a 35-32 count at halftime, then pushed it to 43-38

with 4:30 spent in the second half when McIllwain buried back-to-back

treys to key the 13-4 run, which blew the lead up to 56-42 with 12:18

left.

Vanguard had three players scoring in double figures, led by guard

Shane McKim with 15 points. Damion Morbley added 14 and Leviticus Williamson contributed 10 points.

An 18-7 deficit in the turnovers department hurt Vanguard, which in

reality, sizzled from the floor with 29 of 48 from the field (60.4%).

Azusa Pacific knocked down 50.8% of its shots.

With the victory Azusa Pacific (14-3 overall) stays in third place in

the GSAC at 6-2. Vanguard fell to 9-9, 5-4 in the GSAC.
