Even without the presence of DJ Gavin Hardkiss, Mosun’s popularity

is obvious as crowds of club-goers spill out onto the street on

weekend nights. The venue features Japanese cuisine, music in the

restaurant after 9 p.m. and Club M.

The upstairs nightclub draws people in to see DJs from Orange

County and around the nation spinning trance, progressive house,

hip-hop and more. The lines start forming around 10 p.m. and the

place keeps jumping until closing.

On Friday Gavin Hardkiss, a.k.a. Hawke, was drawing the crowds. On

the San Francisco scene Hardkiss is a pioneer to the electronica

movement.

He has been named responsible for concocting some of the first

distinctly San Franciscan dance music and has helped bring

tribal-like beats into the club scene.

Hardkiss recently released Heatstroke, which features more of a

timeless style that put San Francisco on the map.

“People spend a lot of time talking about genre in dance music,”

said Hardkiss, “But no genre stamp can capture a certain heart and

passion and emotion.”

Hardkiss did not disappoint, but he did add some mainstream feel

to a couple of his songs. He added Prince’s Raspberry Beret and other

popish favorites in the mix. The Club M scene is a bit more like Los

Angeles, Manhattan or South Beach with everyone dressed up. It’s not

necessarily a locals hang out for the most part, but it does have a

huge draw.

The decor is funky, club-like and has female Go-Go dancers, as

well as an area with couches to relax while the club continues to

bring in the big names. Information: (949) 497- 5646 or

www.mosunclubm.com. Club M is at 680 S. Coast Highway.
