Laguna Beach’s boys’ Under-13 soccer team lost two competitive

matches last weekend in the tough Silver South Division of the Coast

Soccer League, falling, 3-1 to Mission Viejo Brazil Soccer Club, and

2-0 to Canyon PSA.

On Saturday, host Laguna Beach and Mission Viejo Brazil Soccer

Club played evenly through the opening 20 minutes of scoreless action

at Moulton Meadows.

Charles Moothart and Michael Tachovsky played well on the

defensive end of the field and Austin Hyden, Ken Buck, Shane

Springer, Josh Wells and Keegan Valaika helped key the offensive

attack.

At the mid-way point of the first half, Mission Viejo struck for

two, quick goals to open up a 2-0 lead at the intermission.

Kevin Buck put Laguna Beach on the scoreboard midway through the

final half to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Mission Viejo posted a late

goal to score a 3-1 victory.

On Sunday, Laguna suffered a 2-0 defeat to Canyon PS, despite

controlling most of the first half of play.

Hyden knocked one shot off the Canyon PSA goalpost and had another

scoring attempt sail just over the net. Springer missed another shot

inches to the left side of the goalpost.

The play of Hyden and Brian Shriver controlled the mid-field in

the opening half and Jared Berkson, Marshall Thomas and goalkeeper

Devon Hands paced the defense as the teams were in a scoreless

deadlock at halftime.

Canyon Hills converted on two second half scoring opportunities to

claim the win.

Laguna Beach returns to the playing field Saturday for a 1:45 p.m.

match against host JUSA Select at East Side Park in Yorba Linda.
