Louisiana church to receive pews

Share

Volunteers from Laguna Presbyterian Church recently loaded 85 of the church’s original pews into a moving van headed for St. Genevieve’s Catholic church in Slidell, La.

The 80-year-old pews were constructed at Laguna Lumberyard where the Lumber Yard Mall stands now in 1927 and will replace those at St. Genevieve’s, ruined by the floodwaters of Hurricane Katrina where parishioners currently sit on folding chairs.

Laguna Presbyterian is beginning a $9 million renovation project to preserve its historic sanctuary building.

Church members raised money to ship the pews to Louisiana, and have donated half of the funds needed to complete the restoration project.

Donors are invited to send a tax-deductible check to Laguna Presbyterian Church to help fund the project.

Checks should indicate: “Save the Sanctuary” and be mailed to Laguna Presbyterian Church, 415 Forest Ave., Laguna Beach, CA 92651. For more information, contact Peg Donner at (949) 494-3105.
