EDITORIAL:

Ladies living in Newport Beach: Lock your windows and doors.

And don’t buy bogus stories intended to get some guy at your door entrance into your home.

Because that’s what’s going on. And while several women have been groped by an intruder described as a heavyset white man in his 20s or 30s, about 240 pounds and with a beard, it could have been worse.

Who knows how sick and demented this character is?

Who knows what drives a man to do such things?

Here’s how his scam works: He either trespasses into an unlocked home or talks his way in — and he tells women he belongs to a UCI fraternity and is supposed to dance for them as part of the fraternity’s activity.

Then he touches them, or, more specifically, grabs their buttocks.

So a word of warning: Don’t fall for it.

In fact, if you’re suspicious in the least, don’t open your door.

And, finally, if you know anything about this suspect, do something about it. Authorities are urging anyone who has experienced a similar incident or has information about the man to call Newport Beach police at (800) 550-NBPDS.

After all, it’s bad enough that women are being violated.

Let’s put a stop to it before more women are victimized, or the violations become more violent.
