Store finds counterfeit bill in cash register

Sometime between Oct. 25 and Oct. 27, an unknown suspect passed a counterfeit $20 bill at a shop in the 200 block of Forest Avenue, Lt. Jason Kravetz said. Shopkeepers found the bill when they were reconciling the cash drawer.

“Any other businesses who have come across counterfeit $20 bills are encouraged to let the police department know so we can track the pattern and identify any potential suspects,” Kravetz said.

Man jailed on suspicion of petty theft

A 63-year-old Seal Beach man was arrested after allegedly stealing a bottle of vodka from a grocery store in the 700 block of South Coast Highway at 3:17 p.m. Oct. 30.

Gary Wayne Horton was jailed because the petty theft charge became a felony due to a prior petty theft conviction, Kravetz said.

Horton allegedly poured the contents of a 750 milliliter bottle of Popov vodka into a water bottle before he was arrested.

Two accused of DUI in same vehicle

A man and woman, both from Anaheim, were arrested on suspicion of driving the same vehicle while under the influence of alcohol early Sunday morning, Kravetz said.

Police were called to the Victoria Beach area at 1 a.m. on a report that a Chevy Tahoe was on the ramp to the beach, in the 100 block of Dumond Drive, spinning its wheels and making a lot of noise, Kravetz said.

When police arrived, the male driver sped past the officer. The officer broadcast a description of the vehicle, which was pulled over in the 2600 block of South Coast Highway, with a woman at the wheel. Police believe the pair switched drivers after the initial encounter with police.

Marvin Luis Gonzalez, 21, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, evading, being an unlicensed driver and providing false information to an officer. Idalia Rocio Anguiano, 22, was charged with DUI and being an unlicensed driver.
