Newport earns a Baker to Vegas win for seventh time

The Newport Beach Police Department’s running team placed first in the annual Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay race against other departments its size for the seventh year in a row, this time with the chief participating.

Officers completed the non-stop, 120-mile run through the Mojave Desert in 15 hours and 10 minutes. It’s the department’s ninth first place in the last 11 years against other departments with up to 150 officers.

Newport placed 18^th overall.
