LBHS Principal Don Austin resigns

Laguna Beach High School Principal Don Austin announced his resignation Thursday morning in a statement to staff.

After five years with the high school, he has accepted the position of assistant superintendent of educational services for the Huntington Beach Union High School District, pending approval from the Board of Education.

“This transition will lead me to new challenges with unfamiliar faces, much the same way I began here,” he said, according to the statement. “I only hope that the experiences I have in Huntington can match the relationships and successes we have had together in Laguna Beach.”

Drug prevention tools offered

The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence-Orange County/Community Alliance Network is offering free presentations about youth alcohol and drug use.

The presentations are available to organizations such as after-school programs, youth and family resource centers, community-based and faith-based organizations and schools.

LBHS students recognized by DAR

The Patience Wright Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recognized two Laguna Beach High School seniors on June 11.

Hali MacDonald and Tyler Pierce were honored. Hali’s was for an essay she wrote on American history, social studies and her goals. Tyler was named 2011 DAR Good Citizen for his service, leadership, dependability and patriotism.

Bruce Bailey, Tyler’s advisor in the Orange County Fire Authority’s Explorer program, paid a visit to give him his award. Tyler is attending the University of Maryland in the fall, where he plans to study fire protection engineering.
