Costa Mesa man arrested in stolen paddleboard, kayak case
Newport Beach police have arrested a man they say stole and resold kayaks and paddleboards.
Eric James Fischer, 26, of Costa Mesa, has been stealing kayaks and paddleboards for months and reselling the items on Craigslist, possibly under aliases to avoid detection, police said Monday in a news release.
He was in possession of four paddleboards taken from Newport Beach and an Ocean Kayak Classic, but police are still seeking the kayak’s owner, according to the release.
Fischer was arrested Wednesday, said police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe.
Anyone who possibly bought merchandise from Fischer is asked to call Det. Brad Miller at (949) 644-3767.
