Little ones need not be afraid at Dunes

Families wanting to get into the Halloween mood without the spooks and spirits can head over to a fairytale-themed haunted house.

The Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort & Marina is hosting its first family-friendly Haunted House that takes children through the story of “Snow White,” complete with dwarfs and prizes throughout.

“It’s a story basically,” said Executive Director Thomas Giulioni. “It’s patterned off the story ‘Snow White,’ but we threw in some fun wrinkles.”

The Haunted House is less haunted and more a show, with six scenes featuring more than 20 characters, Giulioni said.

Children can expect to get prizes and candy as they make their way through the scenes. They will be greeted at the end with a bounce house, pizza from Company 77, crafts, cookies and decorating.

Newport Dunes has been working on the project for the past 90 days to prepare for Halloween. The resort partnered with Camp James, which provided the actors and characters, and BTB Event Productions, which provided the props and décor.

The Haunted House opened Thursday for a sneak peek, but already Guilioni said it will be an annual event that will only get bigger next year.

Admission is included in the price of parking, which is $20 per car, $30 per SUV and $100 per bus. Walk-ins will be charged $10.

The Haunted House runs from 5 to 9 p.m. through Halloween day at Newport Dunes, 1131 Back Bay Drive.
