1 killed, 1 injured in Coast Highway crash

A two-car crash at Coast Highway near El Morro Elementary School on Wednesday night killed one person and injured another.

Duy Nguyen, 24, of Santa Ana died at 7:35 p.m.at Coast Highway and State Park/El Morro School in Laguna Beach, according to a county coroner an Orange County Coroner’s press release.

A 47-year-old woman from Laguna Beach was hurt and taken to the hospital, but her injuries are not life-threatening, according to Laguna Beach police Lt. Jason Kravetz.

Nguyen was driving his red Honda northbound on Coast Highway when he crossed over into the southbound lane and was hit by a black Chevy driven by the Laguna Beach woman, Kravetz said.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.

The Newport Beach police and fire departments, the Laguna Beach Police Department, state park authorities and CHP responded to the scene, according to NBFD spokeswoman Jennifer Schulz.
