Fire department extinguishes vehicle fire in Laguna

The Laguna Beach Fire Department put out a vehicle fire Tuesday afternoon on Anita Street near South Coast Highway.

Firefighters immediately responded to the fire, which took place just before 1:30 p.m. and threatened a nearby structure.

No one was in the vehicle, Fire Marshal/Division Chief Dan Stefano said in an email. The driver had apparently just parked the vehicle and noticed an odd sound coming from the engine, he added.

A second fire engine was dispatched due to the vehicle being completely engulfed in flames and so close to a building.

The firefighters from Station No. 2, led by Capt. Patrick Brennan and his crew, including firefighter Zack De John and engineer Scott Hammond, stopped the fire before the flames were able to make contact with the structure, according to Stefano.

No injuries were reported, but the vehicle was a total loss, Stefano said.
