Applicants sought for environmental committee

The City Council is seeking applications for those interested in serving on the city’s Environmental Sustainability Committee, according to a city press release.

The committee consists of seven members who serve two-year terms; all must be residents and four spots are open.

The committee is researches, reviews and advises the council on items related to protecting the environment and improving the community’s future sustainability. A personal time commitment of 10 to 15 hours per month may be required. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Tuesday and are available at lagunabeachcity.net.

Assistance League recognizes local for 20 years of service

Norma McKibban was recognized for her 20 years of service as a member of the Assistance League of Laguna Beach during the recent Membership Appreciation Luncheon, according to a press release.

McKibban has held every officer position, except that of president and treasurer. She served twice as vice president/chair of the thrift shop, essentially volunteering her time in a full-time role for those two years.

She credits the Assistance League for being a place where she is able to focus on what is important in life, and over time has become more committed to the nonprofit.

Community Foundation distributes gift to Susi Q

Laguna Beach Community Foundation distributed a donation from the Crevier Family Donor Advised Fund to the Laguna Beach Seniors recently, according to a news release.

The money is going toward the Susi Q Knitting Group volunteers who make shawls and blankets for oncology patients at Mission Hospital. Those interested in establishing a personal charitable fund should contact President and Chief Executive Darrcy Loveland at (949) 715-8223.

Meanwhile, the foundation is set to host another Media Workshop from 3 to 4:30 p.m. March 1 with online news and social media as the topic. Participants can bring laptops for the workshop. Parking is limited and reservations are required through (949) 715-8223 or info@lagunabeachcf.org.

Commission partners with Eco-Warrior Foundation

The California Coastal Commission has partnered with ECO-Warrior Foundation for the Adopt-A-Beach-Program, according to a press release.

The foundation will be the local contact within the city and will direct volunteers to beach cleanups in Laguna Beach. The first cleanup is set for March 23 in conjunction with The Montage, Laguna Beach, The Hearts of Montage, & The Boys and Girls Club of Laguna Beach.

Glennwood in need of more donations

The Glennwood Housing Foundation is seeking donations to help it continue to move forward on the construction of its independent living home for some 50 young adults who have special needs, according to a news release.

“This will be a truly one-of-a-kind facility, exemplifying Laguna Beach’s openness to diversity and acceptance, as we open doors to the residential future for 50 young adults with special needs,” the release reads.

So far, the foundation has raise $1 million, but still needs $350,000 to complete the renovation by the end of May.
