Jeri Jean McCumsey

Jeri Jean McCumsey of La Quinta, CA, passed away on February 3, 2013, after an 8 year battle with cancer. Her family will never experience a sadder day in their lives, the day Robert lost his teenage sweetheart and her sons lost their Mother, Mommy-Mom. Jeri was born in San Bernardino, CA on October 22,1934, was the only child born to Raymond D. and Tibi H. Forsythe.  Jeri attended San Bernardino schools and Montecito Girls School in Montecito CA. Jeri was a wonderful devoted mother, homemaker and talented artist.  Survived by her loving husband of 58 years, main caregiver and supporter in her battle with cancer, Robert D; son Robert R. (Wife-Danielle); son Mark; Step-grandson Trevor, nephew Dean (Wife-Kathy); grandniece Nichole.
Jeri always wanted to live at the beach, having been taught at a very young age to swim in Balboa Bay by surfing great Duke Kahanamoku, she was absolutely delighted with their move to Laguna Niguel. Jeri quickly became a surfing mom taking her boys in her Thunderbird with surfboards atop to Young’s Beach Camp (Salt Creek Beach), now known as Monarch Beach.
Jeri was an award winning watercolor artist receiving many awards with membership in several artist organizations. Having the time, with her boys now grown, she and her girlfriends owned and operated the Saint Nicholas store in San Juan Capistrano. Jeri was a special devoted wife and wonderful mother with many talents including interior design with all of her homes so beautifully appointed, especially her dream home on Poppy Avenue overlooking little Corona Beach in Corona del Mar. Jeri was certified as and held a black belt in shopping.
Jeri and Bob moved to La Quinta in 2005 and upon her completion of the interior design of their new home, Jeri was stricken with lung cancer starting her long journey to heaven.
Private services will be held with a planned celebration of Jeri’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that a donation be made in her name to the American Cancer Society. The family wishes to thank all the caregivers that assisted in Jeri’s care. Jeri was truly a wonderful lady and a very sweet special person that will be greatly missed and never be forgotten.
