3-car crash in Newport injures one

One person was transported to Hoag Hospital after a three-car crash at East Coast Highway and Newport Coast Drive on Friday, according to the Newport Beach Fire Department and witnesses.

A 911 call initially reporting an overturned vehicle came in about 3 p.m., according to a Fire Department spokesman.

When fire personnel got there, there was no overturned vehicle and officials found most of the occupants from the three smashed cars were uninjured.

Debris was scattered throughout the intersection, and traffic was backed up for blocks.
