Police arrest 11 in sweep

Eleven convicts released into the community as part of the state’s “realignment” plan aimed at relieving prison overcrowding were arrested in a sweep for violating the terms of their release, Costa Mesa police announced Wednesday.

More than half of the offenders visited by police were found out of compliance with terms of their early releases.

Those arrested were:

•Steven Gray, 30, of Costa Mesa, on suspicion of possession of controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia and violating the terms of his probation;

•Freddy Ramirez, 31, of Costa Mesa, on suspicion of possession of controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, violating the terms of his release and having outstanding warrants;

•Daniel Peckenpaugh, 24, of Costa Mesa, for outstanding warrants;

•Anna Giss, 31, of Laguna Woods, on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia and probation violations;

•Justin Markin, 32, of Laguna Woods, on suspicion of violating probation;

•Jamie Bergstrom, 30, of Costa Mesa, on suspicion of having drug paraphernalia, violating the terms of his release and having an outstanding warrant;

•Ashley Lyons, 27, of Costa Mesa, on suspicion of possession controlled substances and violating probation;

•Krystal Rodriguez, 24, of Costa Mesa, on suspicion of violating the terms of release;

•Ryan Gobrogee, 29, of Costa Mesa, on suspicion violating the terms of release;

•Ryan Walker, 24, of Newport Beach, on suspicion of misappropriating an access card;

•A 17-year-old Costa Mesa resident on suspicion of possession of controlled substances.

Costa Mesa police partnered with the Orange County Probation Department in the citywide compliance check for those released under California’s realignment plan.

Police contacted 21 offenders in the May 16 sweep.
