Police seek man involved in Sandpiper assault

A man allegedly assaulted and injured another man with a beer bottle early Sunday morning at the Sandpiper lounge, Laguna Beach police confirmed.

The victim suffered a moderately severe cheek laceration that needed sutures following the incident at 12:49 a.m. at the lounge, 1183 S. Coast Hwy., Sgt. Louise Callus wrote in an email.

Stu News Laguna first reported that a bar fight escalated to an alleged assault with a deadly weapon when the perpetrator struck the other man in the face with a beer bottle.

Police had not arrested anyone as of Tuesday morning and assigned a detective to the case, Callus said.

The suspect was thinly built, had a mustache and spoke with an Australian accent, according to witnesses, Stu News reported.
