Raymond Fredrick Hitzel

Raymond Fredrick Hitzel passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 2, 2013.
Born in Chicago, Illinois on February 25, 1920, Ray attended Lions Township High School
where he excelled in athletics. Ray went on to play football for Marquette University and
Arizona State University. Ray served as a Second Lieutenant in WWII and was a POW in
Germany where he was decorated with a Battle Stars Ribbon. After moving from Denver,
Colorado to Palo Alto, California, he and his family settled in Newport Beach and have resided
there for 50 plus years. While raising his children, they were active members of
Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of
56 years, Rosemary Caterina Hitzel. He is survived by his five children, Thomas Hitzel,
Kathy Hitzel, Jack Hitzel, Beth Miller (Wayne), and Dave Hitzel (Helen), nine grandchildren, and
three great grandsons. Ray will always be remembered for his avid love of golf, attending his
sons sporting activities and spending time with his grandchildren while they were growing up.
He was a supportive father, who while he had his strong opinions, never forced anyone to agree
with him. He just wanted all his children to be productive and happy. Ray was influential in all
his children’s lives and will be truly missed. In honor of Ray, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 17771 Cowan Suite 200 Irvine , CA. 92614.
