A woman was hospitalized after two cars collided on South Coast Highway on Friday morning, Laguna Beach police said.

The crash occurred at 8:05 a.m. in the 2400 block when a 24-year-old San Clemente woman, who was driving a Toyota Corolla, made an illegal U-turn from the northbound side of South Coast Highway north of Upland Road, Sgt. Louise Callus wrote in an email.

A 62-year-old Laguna Beach man driving a Chevrolet Volt hit the Corolla, sending the car across southbound lanes, police said.

Laguna Beach firefighters extricated the woman, who had suffered a fractured hip, from the Corolla and transported her to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, Callus said. The other driver had minor bruises on his arms, Callus said.

Southbound traffic on South Coast Highway was closed for nearly an hour while one northbound lane remained open.

No arrests were made, Callus said.
