Mailbag: Kudos to mayor for keeping art alive

Share

I want to acknowledge the commitment that Jane Egly brings to the art created in Laguna Beach and encourage other working artists to keep Egly in office.

I am able to live in Laguna Beach because of the opportunity offered here to market my sculptures. I frequently enter competitions sponsored by the Laguna Beach Arts Commission, which makes me aware of Egly’s contribution.

She attends the Arts Commission meetings often and is a champion for art created in our community.

Egly is preparing to run for a second term on the council. I want to encourage all working artists to vote for her because she is working for us.

Commentary was a touching read

James Pribram’s piece in the June 22 edition of the Coastline Pilot, “Commentary: Using writing to remember a friend,” was, for me, very moving.

I, too, have gone through the experience of losing someone who was the center of my life and afterward, was unable to resume writing.

Grief changes everything. Memories turn into sadness and life becomes an empty house.

Many of us in Laguna can relate to Pribram’s story. I admire his resolve to speak out against drug addiction, and I’m glad he’s writing again. He does it well.
