College Roundup: Golden West men’s water polo advances to CCCAA State final

The Golden West College men’s water polo team earned a chance to four-peat.

Taylor Lungu and Konstantinos Koulouris each scored three goals, and the Rustlers advanced to the California Community College Athletic Assn. State championship tournament final with Friday’s 20-9 win over Diablo Valley at home.

Golden West (26-3) will host Long Beach City in the title match on Saturday at 12:15 p.m. The Rustlers have won 26 state crowns in the program’s history.

UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine 9: Jason Evezard scored four goals for the Anteaters in the first round of the Golden Coast Conference championships on Friday at Pepperdine University.

Sven Davidson had two goals for UCI (7-15).

MEN’S SOCCER

Indiana Institute of Technology 2, Vanguard 0: The No. 3-seeded Lions lost in the opening round of the NAIA National tournament on Friday in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Victor Negrete made seven saves for Vanguard (12-7).

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 3, UC Irvine 0: The Mustangs earned a 27-25, 25-15, 25-22 Big West Conference sweep at home Friday.

The Anteaters dropped to 5-22 overall and 2-13 in the conference.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Mira Costa 90, Orange Coast 65: Jonathan Ileleji finished with 18 points, six rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot for the host Pirates in Friday’s nonconference game.

Orange Coast (1-4), which led 42-37 at halftime, got outscored by 30 in the second half.
