Locals’ title drive moves along

The CIF Southern Section playoffs continue in boys’ and girls’ soccer as well as in girls’ water polo this week.

Three Newport-Mesa schools are still alive in the girls’ soccer postseason, one in boys’ soccer and one in girls’ water polo.

Corona del Mar and Newport Harbor are each playing host to Division I second-round girls’ soccer matches today, while Estancia travels for its Division IV second-round match.

The Sea Kings (15-3-4) face Los Alamitos (16-4-4) at 3 p.m. CdM is the Pacific Coast League champion and Los Alamitos is the second-place team from the Sunset League.

The Sailors (8-12-3) play Tesoro (14-2-6) at 5 p.m. Newport Harbor finished third in the Sunset League and Tesoro was second in the Sea View League.

The Eagles (14-4-4) are going to Los Angeles to meet second-seeded Brentwood (18-1-2) at 3 p.m. Estancia won the Orange Coast League and Brentwood is the Alpha League champion.

In boys’ soccer, CdM (14-2-7) is at home Wednesday in a Division III second-round match. The Sea Kings play Santa Ana Valley (17-8-0) at 3 p.m.

The Sea Kings finished second in the Pacific Coast League and Santa Ana Valley was second in the Orange League.

In girls’ water polo, CdM is in the Division I semifinals. The No. 3-seeded Sea Kings (20-7) face Foothill (17-10) on Wednesday at Irvine High at 5 p.m. The Sea Kings are the Pacific Coast League champions and Foothill won the Century League.
